The Utterly Butterly Ukulele Project (TUBUP)
Music and junk instrument making workshops for primary and secondary schools
Here’s how it works:
In a school day, we can work with around 60 – 90 participants (depending on the ages of the children).
Each child will make their own TUB-Uke, learn to play a few songs, and take part in a TUB-Uke performance at the end of the day.
The TUB-Ukes are constructed from an Utterly Butterly tub and a piece of wood, with fishing line for strings. To everyone’s amusement and amazement, the TUB-Uke is fully functional and tuneable and is played the same as any conventional ukulele.

The project works best with Year 3 upwards, although we can work with younger, but tieing knots on strings is difficult for little fingers, so any support staff available on the day are most welcome!
We often work with clusters of schools, who all come together for a massed TUB-Uke performance.
We’re happy to negotiate for block bookings.
